Conversation I had with a student:
"So did you have a good Thanksgiving?"
"Yes."
"What did you have to eat?"
"Macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and gross beast...yum!"
"Do you mean roast beef?"
"No, I mean grrroosssss beeeeeeeeef [as if I misheard what he had said the first time]."
"Oh, well that does sound yummy..."
Some facts that I was recently made aware of by some five-year-olds:
"When I wake up my hands feel strong [making a fist]."
"I'm eating these carrots so I can see at nighttime. I'm going to sneak up on my mommy when I'm supposed to be in bed and she is watching TV."

Ha ha! I love that--gross beef :)

Hee hee, "gross beef"--that makes me think of the roast beast in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I love it when you try to correct kids and they just roll your eyes at you like you're sooooo dumb for not getting it the first time.
I love the comment about the carrots, too--what a noble reason to eat your veggies. :)

I will miss you sharing all these conversations with the 5 year olds when you stop teaching. They are priceless. I don't know as I would have even been able to guess he meant "roast beef". Guess that comes with teaching 5 years for 4 years, you have the Kindergartener to English dictionary! Love, Mom F
