Dinner at Dakota

In the midst of organizing and unpacking, D's parents took us out to a celebratory dinner at Dakota on Thursday night. It was nice to have something to look forward to besides unpacking! D's dad picked us up on his way home from work, since we live so close to the hospital, and we picked up his mom and Peter...then off we went!

I wasn't one for red meat before getting pregnant, but now Baby likes hamburgers and a steak always seems like a good idea. I think this is the first steak I've had since being pregnant, but I'm always thinking about one it seems. And this one did not disappoint! Teriyaki steak, no less. So yummy. D had the Sirloin steak and enjoyed that as well, along with their salad bar, Buffalo bread, and a side of your choosing. We also got dessert (which we never do): a brownie sundae. I can't remember the last time I had a dinner like that!

While at the restaurant, by complete coincidence, we saw the family I used to nanny for years go...right before we got married. I lost touch with them, as busyness gets in the way, but it was wonderful to see them again. The kids have grown SO MUCH. It made me feel so old. The boy is so much taller than me now! Crazy. Of course, the mom was thrilled that we are expecting and grilled us with all the usual questions. They were like my second family for years and years, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them again. Actually, it was quite ironic. I told D, as we were entering the restaurant, that the last time I was here was with that family. And that got me thinking that I haven't talked to them in a while and that I should call and see what they were up to. Anyway, what a fun evening all around!

Oh, and D's mom made this cool collage of graduation pictures:

Very clever. D put it up in our room right we got home that night! (We framed his diploma, by the way. It looks very sharp!)

In other news, we are almost all settled in. I'm thoroughly enjoying this not-having-to-work thing. I got my second-to-last paycheck direct deposited into our account yesterday. All the rest (besides one) will be from D now! :) I'm also enjoying D's company. We've obviously been spending a lot of time together before his hours get crazy. I'm expecting not to see him much this year, but then everyone said that about med school and I saw him all the time, so I'm not really sure what to expect. I know some months/rotations will be busier than others, but I'm sure we'll see plenty of each other. And he gets an entire week off when the baby comes on top of his four other vacation weeks. But that's a big reason I don't mind living with my parents for a while. This house is ALWAYS abuzz with some activity. I can't believe how fast the days fly by. I look forward to just reading and that doesn't even happen every day. So it's fun and we both really enjoy it here because it's never boring! Like last night, the girls went over Yana's mom's house and the guys stayed here and we had our respective "nights."

Well, off to get stuff done. The baby's awake now, he was nice and sleepy after my walking around so much. This kid packs a punch/kick, have I mentioned that? Off to do some more walking around...

Tony called Mom the other night, and told me that she said they were at Dakota. And I remember saying, "I wonder why they were there? They seem to only go there when they have something to celebrate..." And silly me couldn't think of what they'd be celebrating--duh! So now I know. :)

That is so great that you saw that family. What a "God-thing" that you just "happened" to run into them. :)

About your comment about people saying you'll never see Dave... not that I can relate exactly, but people tend to say the same things about having kids. You know, like, "Oh, you'll never go out alone again, and your whole life will be about your kids" blah blah blah. But Tony and I have had plenty of chances to have "date nights" (thanks in no small part to Mom and Dad, the willing babysitters!). I mean, sure, big things like med school or having a baby will inevitably change your life, but as they say, it's all about priorities. Make it a priority to spend couple-time together, and make the most of the time you do have. (Sorry if I'm sounding preachy here, lol.)

Ahh, the baby punches/kicks--I remember that! And now that Ari is a toddler/climber, her activity in the womb makes so much sense--the girl just cannot hold still! :)

Yay for going out to dinner, and yay for steak! We went to Texas Roadhouse for Josh's birthday, and they had really good steak there. We also went to a movie, Indiana Jones, which was really good by the way. We left Matthew with Josh's parents, and I was the typical nervous first-time mom leaving my kid, but it was great to be with just Josh and not have to worry about diapers and feedings and cryings for a couple hours. I'm sure as he gets older it will get even easier to have some dates with my hubby.
