Monday Mish Mash

Today: marks Micah's ninth month outside the womb. I asked David, "What were we doing nine months ago today?" truly trying to remember what the birthing experience was like. My man was obviously not in the same sentimental mood as I when he responded, "What were we doing nine months before that...?" Typical male.

To gross you out even further: For those who are interested, my monthly friend has returned after a very nice hiatus since December 2007. I'm relieved to know that my body is generally back on its pre-pregnancy track, although I can't say I missed this particular part. When I alerted D to this new development I realized that again we were not on the same wave length: "Oh good, that means we can get pregnant again." Meaning soon. Meaning he got slapped upside his head. Yes, he knows you can still get pregnant without having a period, but he launched into some medicalese explanation and I promptly lost track of his point.

Farmer's Markets: are few and far between here in CT. Locally grown fruits and veggies, I've read, are better for you and help with allergies, etc. Not that we have allergies because we don't, but farmer's market produce can be cheaper and better quality. In PA, they have something called Produce Junction where you can get fruits and veggies en mass for very, very cheap. We used to go there after church on Sundays when we lived in Philly. We'd get two heads of Romaine lettuce for $1, five cucumbers for $1, ten apples for $1.50. It was great. D and I were getting nostalgic on the way back from PA last weekend over Produce Junction. Weird, I know. All that to say that D found me a few farmer's markets nearby and I plan on checking them out this week :). Find one near you: www.localharvest.org.

Once Upon A Child: had an AWESOME sale on Saturday (50% off from 10am-2pm, 60% off from 2:01-4:00pm, and 70% off from 4:01-6pm). I brought Micah with me so David could work on the basement with Dad, so I didn't expect to get a lot of shopping done. He fell asleep on the way there and slept for about 40 minutes. After that it was full speed ahead. I went around 10:30am thinking that since there are only two aisles of boys clothing and the deals are great, there might not be anything worth looking at come 4pm. However, there were only a few other people in the aisle with me and they weren't there for that long. I got a lot of cute things for next summer and a Fourth of July outfit for this year. I also got some cute hats for $0.50 (Children's Place, no less), some water shoes, and a swimshirt for the little man to wear with his bathing suit (him being very light-skinned and all). Micah, in the meantime, was attracted to the wide variety of toys that were scattered about the floor. I kept having to retrieve him, but it kept him occupied for the two hours we were there. A lady was shopping for her grandson in PA who was around the same age as Micah, so she kept using him for sizing purposes. She was amazed at all he could do for eight months. I told her that he was waiting his whole little life to be able to do what he was doing now. I've heard people say that it gets harder as babies get older. The opposite is true for me: it has gotten SO much easier!

Gate: D decided it was time to get a gate to keep Micah contained. We're going to get a open-up-type one for our basement so people don't have to climb over the gate going up or down the stairs, but for now, this is it:

Dave's comment sounds like something Josh would say... men (sigh)

Ah yes, the fated monthly friend. It was nice to be without him for a while, but yeah, getting your body back to pre-pregnancy state was encouraging too. In a way, you feel a woman and wife, and not just a mom. At least for me with breastfeeding and all, I felt like I was a mommy all the time without a break. It was nice when we switched Matthew to whole milk, cause I got my body back, you know what I mean? Well, you will soon.

There's a farmer's market in our town that's open from May to October. I've been meaning to check it out.

Great deals on clothing. It's hard to shop for next season for babies, but since their growth slows down when they get older, it might be easier. For example, Matthew will probably fit 2T for a whole year, instead of 4 or 5 months. He's in 18 months right now, with no signs of outgrowing it yet.

We had to buy a gate too, cause Matthew will go upstairs when I'm not looking :)

Ah I remember those "gate days" so well! Now I'm using those same gates for my grandchildren when they visit!

lol, love Dave's comments, although they would be very different from Steve's, seeing as how at the moment, Steve has no more desire for any more children. Olyvia is perfect for him, he says. lol

I do not care for my monthly friend. Quite frankly, if there was a way for me to get rid of it and still be able to conceive, I would. It's one of the few things, that make me absolutely hate being a girl. I know it has it's purpose and that God's ways are perfect and no mistake, but why oh why can't men have it instead! lol It puts me out of commission for 10 days a month, which is more than I care for, personally.

There is a Farmer's Market in town, however, since it's on Saturday morning, I've yet to go. lol I need to check it out sometime. I think my biggest fear is that I'm going to be super disappointed since, the one in Monterey was perfectly wonderful and every way (including military discount - 50% less than for everyone else; and free veggies from some of the venders). I should make it my goal to go this Saturday...I just added it to my calendar. lol

I love OUAC!!! It's funny because I just mentioned it and a post that I published about 20 minutes ago. lol Great deals!! I told Steve that next time we go up there, I'll have to plan our visit according to their sales! lol I'll have to get your help to stay informed.

I love gates! lol It gives me peace of mind. We still use our gates for the front and back door when they were open in the cooler months, which have become non-existent recently. lol

BTW, I love reading your blog and I'm looking forward to reading more about your garden!
