Nick and Kristina arrived here on a rainy Friday afternoon. We haven’t been welcoming our guests with the best of weather, but there are some things that are just out of our control. Sorry!
Meet Nick and Kristina!!
Nick, being the last of three, has always been loud and louder. I know there’s a book on personalities and baby order out there and our family fits it to a tee. And opposites didn’t attract, so his girlfriend is exactly like him. D and I knew we were in for an entertaining weekend. We were not disappointed. The evening began with a pillow fight. I can’t even remember the last time I thought about having a pillow fight let alone engaged in one. Kristina’s cat, Echo, was looking on in somewhat of a confused horror.
Yep, we had a cat visitor for the weekend and, well, not just for the weekend. He’s still here! David took an immediate liking to that cat in what has become an unusual relationship. The cat loves David, too. I mean, he’ll stare at him, follow him, curl up next to him, try to get his attention. It’s the funniest thing. He’s not that attached to me. D says that’s because cats can read people…I’m still trying to figure out exactly what he meant by that… Anyway, more cat stories later.
Around 9ish on Friday night, Nick and D went to the local Pathmark food store because they have this DVD-dispensing machine where you slide your credit card and for $1.49 you have yourself a rental until the following evening before store closing. Kristina and I stayed back, wondering if that was such a good idea. After building up anticipation, one of the guys pulled Over the Hedge out of his pocket. I was puzzled at first, but after we started watching it I decided it was a good pick. I enjoy the type of humor most of those animated movies have and my falling asleep in the middle of it had nothing to do with the movie itself.
Eating ice cream cake for their one-year anniversary
Saturday was Nick and Kristina’s one-year-of-dating anniversary so we pointed them in the direction of a local restaurant for lunch and then went off by ourselves. When we met up again, we just relaxed and hung out ‘til dinnertime. We all agreed on Chili’s as the place de jour, but we had some options. There was one in Delaware, one near our old apartment, or one in Center City…which is downtown Philly if you hadn’t already guessed. No one cared so we left the final decision to David and he picked…Center City! Parking was the only difficulty. D drove Nick’s rather large Crown Vic and did this masterful parallel parking job. We’re used to D’s small Escort in the city, so it took a few maneuvers to fit in, but he did it! We were all impressed with his success, half because we were so hungry and half because he did such a great job. Dinner was yummy, per usual at Chili’s, and we rolled ourselves home again. Coyote Ugly was on TV and the boys watched it kicking and screaming, at first, but then, for some reason, didn’t have a problem with it! And yes, I fell asleep during that movie, too. I can’t help it though, my dad does the same thing…it’s in my genes!
Photographic evidence of D's awesome parking job!
With Sunday came church and lunch at Pizza Hut’s Italian Bistro, thanks to dad! I’ve never seen a Pizza Hut restaurant like this before and when we have passed it, I would always say that I wanted to go there someday. It’s almost an oxymoron: a fancy Pizza Hut. Nick took pictures, that’s how interesting it was. After lunch, we were sad to see them go, but I had looooooooooooooooooooooots of work to do and we’ll be seeing them tomorrow night. And Echo got to stay, so David (who is on vacation all week) was all set.

Aww, looks like you guys had lots of fun. Echo looks like a really pretty cat--glad Dave found a fun companion. What did Dougie think of having a cat in the apartment?

::looking up at Mary's comment:: Yeh, what did Dougie think of Echo?
You guys are quite the host and hostess. I'm very impressed with Dave being able to parallel park--I still can't do it! Luckily, they never tested me on that when I took my driving test.
See you guys THIS weekend! :)

Looking forward to seeing you two this weekend! Oops! You'll have to de-fur your apartment if we're ever going to visit again! I'm VERY allergic to cats!

We'll be on the lookout for those cat stories! Echo is a nice looking cat and I bet Kristina misses him, but I'm glad Dave has enjoyed his company.
Have fun in CT.

I, too, would have picked Center City, as I LOVE going into Philly, especially as I never have to do the driving! You two are awesome hosts and all of us always enjoy ourselves with you. See you in about 8 hours, Lord willing! Love, Mom F
