Our favorite morning talk show host, Michael Smerconish, had a guest on this week whose goal is to visit every Starbucks in the world. He's calling it Starbucking and I think he even has a documentary out on it. Pretty lofty goal when they are popping up everywhere all the time. Anyway, I don't know if this guest gave D the idea or not, but he suggested visiting our local Starbucks for some coffee (homemade hot chocolate, in my case...Starbucks is WAY too expensive for my taste!) and some talking. D stood in line while I found a table and he soon came back with his decaf soy cinnamon dolce latte. There's Starbucks for ya. We talked about lots of things including his surgery rotation, my Master's portfolio, his computer-fiddling findings, my kindergarten class, and, of course, the residency programs that he will start applying to in September. We also talked about his going on an away rotation somewhere in CT right at the beginning of fourth year, like in August or September. It'd be for 4 weeks, so I'd probably take a long weekend in the middle and visit him there. It's all so exciting and overwhelming...I can't believe he's going to be Dr. Dave in the foreseeable future!
Later that afternoon we went out to eat at Moe's Springfield Grille. It's a place we found on Restaurants.com and we got this gift certificate complimentary when we bought our Entertainment coupon book. The catch is you have to spend $35 using this $25 gift certificate, which is actually hard for us because we always get waters with lemon and reasonably-priced entrees without appetizers or desserts. So we were trying to get the most expensive things on the menu, it was such a change of pace! D got this steak meal and I got a steak wrap with fries for an extra dollar and a side salad for an extra three dollars. We even got an appetizer. All this still didn't bring us up to the $35 requirement, so we were going to order dessert. Then D had the bright idea of seeing if they would just take the certificate since we were at $32, which was close. We were going to bring the dessert home anyway, along with our leftovers that I'll be eating tomorrow for lunch :). They ended up taking the certificate so we got all this food for under $10...I almost felt bad! It's always fun to get those kinds of deals.
Today I was a bachelorette at church. Which was okay because the husband of one of my friends was away at a conference so she was a bachelorette, too, so we stuck together. I had lunch at the hospital with David around 1:30ish today. We, again, got through our entire meal and even got some talking time in before his trauma pager went off. By this time it was close to 2:30 and I had to get some work done on my (when-is-this-going-to-be-over-with) portfolio. I think I just may start a countdown to May 15th, when my portfolio has to be postmarked and on its way to my professor in Michigan. Then again, I may not because it'll just remind me of all the work I need to do in what is quickly becoming a short amount of time! So it goes.

I heard about that Starbucks guy. Who knows if he'll ever reach that goal, lol. I never go to Starbucks, but one time, when I worked at the Disney Store, we came in one winter morning to find that the heat was out. The thermostat was reading 40-something degrees and we could see our breath in the air--brrr! We all headed to Starbucks (the only coffee shop in the mall), and since I don't drink coffee, I got a hot chocolate (had to have something warm to drink!). Anyway, it was the BEST hot chocolate I have ever had in my life! Made with real milk and everything. I don't even want to think about how many calories it had. Anyway, I'm glad I've never gotten into the coffee habit--a place like that is too pricey!
LOL at you guys trying to find the most expensive stuff on the menu. When we have gift cards, Tony is the type who want to get an appetizer and desserts since we have the gift card and we're not spending our own money, and I'm the type who would rather spend as little as possible to make the gift card last. But if there's something really good on the dessert menu, it doesn't take much to convince me. ;)

Great deal on the restaurant outing! Josh and I try to make our gift cards last longer in a similar way-- water, no desserts. Although, probably our favorite thing to eat at Applebees is their appetizers! The rest of their menu is so-so :)

You do your father proud, Jess (and Dave). We did the same thing and I tell you what, I get full so fast it is hard to spend a lot of money eating out! After the salad I am already rethinking what I ordered for the entree! But it is fun and even more enjoyable when you can eat out inexpensively. As far as Starbucks, give me Whole Donut coffee everytime (may they rest in peace, sigh). Love, Mom F
