Baby's Room

Well, I think I've finally decided how I want to decorate the nursery. It's much easier being able to picture the room that will be decorated now that we almost have a house. Anyway, this outfit depicts the color scheme/theme perfectly. I was at Gymboree earlier this week to exchange something a friend had gotten me and I had all this store credit left over. So I decided to browse and was pleasantly surprised to find this:

I paid way more than I would ever pay out of my own pocket. However, since everything is mostly boy or girl in the store, I figured I'd buy more things with the store credit after Baby is here. This left me with the bright idea to splurge.

The color scheme is green and brown. The brown will mostly come from the cherry-stained crib and changing table (and the hardwood floors, too, I guess). Brown will also come from the teddy bear accents I want to incorporate throughout the room. Nothing too overwhelming, but cute things here and there. Babies R Us has a nice "B is for Bear" bedding set at a relatively reasonable price, but after looking it over again and again I decided that I don't want it. You can't use the quilt with a newborn (and I already have a lot of blankets), so it inevitably turns into a wall hanging which I think is tacky. The rest of the set consists of a dust ruffle, a crib sheet, and a bumper. I don't like the crib sheet and I found another dust ruffle and bumper that I like just as much. So you can see why it wouldn't be $100 well spent. I am thinking about registering for the BEAR mobile that went with the bedding set for the crib, but it's kind of pricey so we'll see.

That leaves the rest of the room green. The outfit has a darker green than we will be painting the room. I like more of the sage green, or even a bit of a darker green (don't know what color that would be called...). The bed sheets, changing table decor, laundry bin, etc will all be green. Throw a little off white (aka Ecru) in here and there and I am liking the overall look. I'm glad to have that decision out of the way. Of course the crib and changing table that I want are not in stock and when I called they don't know when they will be in stock, so I might have to come up with a Plan B.

I'm sure I've stated the reason for the colors, but I will again in case you missed it. I don't want to do a girl or a boy theme because bedding is way too expensive and I won't have the time or the energy (or want to spend the money) to overhaul the nursery everytime we have another child. I can add (light) blue or (dark) pink accents if I am in the mood, but I like the green-brown-ecru combo.

So there you have some idea as to what Baby's room will look like!

Sounds like a great plan! Too bad about your crib & changing table though! Are you going to decide on another set? Can't believe you only have 65 days left!

sounds like a good idea for your baby's nursery. The colors will be nice and calming for bedtime and naptime.
