So, on to what David is making me do. It's not horrible or dramatic or anything like that, sorry to let anyone down. But it's kind of annoying...to me. I'm not sure how much I buy into all the classical-music-helps-developing-babies hype, but D apparantly does. And since this baby is his, too, there are certain things that I'll just have to do to appease him. Well, listening to classical music is one of them. He L-O-V-E-S classical music, either he is humming a tune or is tapping it out with his fingers. It wouldn't hurt to listen to more of it, but why couldn't they do research with babies and jazz music? Anyway, he found this free service online and was able to download the below album and that is what I, sorry, we, have been listening to (I put a request in for him to turn it on while I'm napping...). He is also making a CD for me from his extensive classical music collection. Joy.
On another note (ha, get it?!), I came across this really neat Dr. Seuss baby book. I think Dr. Seuss is a literary genius and I read a lot of his books to my kindergarteners (along with every other early childhood educator, I'm sure), so I'm debating whether or not to get it. You can click on the book to look inside:
I guess we both have our little quirky ideas. One theme that seems to be developing: this poor baby is doomed to a life of nerdiness.

I love classical music and so does Olyvia. Steve likes it, but isn't consumed by it, lol.
Mozart is very cool!
Cool Dr. S book, as well.

I, personally, love classical music, though my neoanderthal men DON'T like it so I don't have it on as much as I would like to! But for your baby, Jess & Dave, I imagine is leaning towards genius just by having your genes in him/her so I suggest you listen to Rap music and dumb that child up so that he has a CHANCE of only normal or slight above normal intelligence!!!! That, or let him hang a weekend with my boys, it works on Dave!!!!!!! Love, Grandma Fusari

Hahahaha, I totally agree with your mom! Gotta dumb this kid down. I know there's all sorts of special stuff out there for babies that's supposed to make them more intelligent and whatnot, but I read something somewhere that made a lot of sense to me... to a baby. EVERYthing is new and exciting and educational. Even something as simple as a trip to the grocery store can be a fascinating experience--all the sights, sounds, smells. It's easy as a parent to get caught up in all the educational stuff and feel this pressure to make your kid super-smart.
Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with that stuff--Ari owns her fair share of Leapfrog toys, lol--but don't underestimate the simple things. :)

I enjoy classical music, but I don't listen to it all the time. Not enough to where I'm humming tunes or tapping them out, like a certain brother of mine ;) Oh, you should tell Dave this, I don't even think your kid can hear your voices yet, so I think you can hold off on the classical music for a while and still be ok. But hey, you'll probably learn to love it and find it soothing.
In my baby class last night, our teacher talked about bringing some CDs to the hospital when you're in labor, and it got me thinking, what music would I want to listen to that would help me relax? I need to look through my collection, but the first thing I thought of was classical music. Of course, since you like jazz, i'm sure you've got some soothing jazz tunes that you'll prefer.
Ooh, Josh and I love Dr. Seuss, but I've never seen this book before. I'll have to show it to Josh when he gets home.
Happy pregnancy!!

Cool! I didn't know that Dr. Seuss wrote a book for pre-borns! Awesome!
