Visit RingoCan you guess which of the three we ate last night?? Yes, apples. It's about that time of year when apple orchards allow you to visit their property, give you a bushel box, and let you loose among their rows and rows of trees. So this is exactly what we did with the help of Ron, Sara, Keith, and Julie. There was a two 1/2 bushels for the price of one offer, as long as one of the 1/2 bushels was all Red Delicious. We decided that sounded good and sent the boys off to fill up the Red Delicious box while we girls taste-tested and decided which other types of apples were good for candy and caramel apple making. The boys finished first, no surprise there. We picked Golden Delicious and Jonagold (cross between Golden Delicious and Jonathon) apples. Jonagold sounds funny, but it's a reallllllllly yummy apple and that's what we ended up using for our candied apples. Visit Ringo

For some reason D has a very long arm in this picture, which, I guess, comes in handy when apple picking.

Then Keith and Ron had to get their turn in the spotlight.Visit Ringo Visit Ringo Visit Ringo

From apple picking, we came back to our place with pizzas and ate, ate, ate. I don't think any of us could have looked at any more food, so we played Scene It! before making dessert. After the game, the boys were given the task of wrapping five apples in caramel while we watched over the boiling candy apple sugar water to make sure we didn't miss the "hard cracked" stage. I think someone made a smart comment about the stage's name, but I won't say who or what. We rounded out the night with an exciting game of Clue. It was my first time playing and if ever the opportunity arose, I'd play it again. I also feel the need to add a warning here about candy apples (not the caramel kind). They were brutual. It was like trying to bite into a Jolly Rancher, so most of us resorted to licking the apple. How's that for an interesting mental picture?

I can't believe that was your first time playing Clue! I love Scene It--I have the Disney version, and I can kick everyone's butts. Which means no one wants to play with me... :(

Apple picking sounds like fun--what a very fall-ish thing to do! :)
