Yesterday we took the plunge...we looked at a new apartment that is located MUCH closer to my work and to the hospital Dave will be working at for the next two years. We really liked it, although it is 100 square feet less than the one we are presently in, it has a balcony and a bigger kitchen and a few utilities are included in the rent. Dave is especially excited about the central air and central heat feature that each unit comes with and about the horizontal (versus the vertical we now have) windows. Please, no comments, it's the small things in life. After talking it over this weekend, we decided to put a deposit down on Monday...if the apartment is still available. If we do get it, we will be moving toward the end of
August. Very bad timing because this complex has a pool for us to use. Oh well, we will at least get a week's worth of swimming in. I am excited about moving because I am looking forward to a 3 minute commute and about saving all the money that Philly likes to take from us in taxes. I also like that Dave can be closer to the hospital in case they want him working weird hours or in case he can go home for a rest when needed. However, I will miss this area, especially because we won't be in Philly anymore. I know you're probably saying well it's only 20 minutes away and you don't really live in Philly anyway considering your street has the "Welcome to Philadelphia" sign on it, you're right. But it won't be the same. I like our little plaza down the road with Dollar Tree, Kmart, and Shop Rite. I like the librarian at the Sharon Hill Library. I like that Produce Junction is on the way to Walmart and
Aldi's. And that we pass Save-a-lot and Eckerd's on our way to church. All the things we need are within 5 miles and I can navigate to them by myself. Yet, I find myself getting over all these nostalgic things rather quickly when I think of all the hundreds of dollars we will be saving during our remaining time in PA. So I am sure we will make ourselves quite comfortable in our new apartment, if or when we get it. But for now we will enjoy being Philadelphians.
